Coaching Staff
Varsity Head Coach Marty Griffin
Coach Marty Griffin enters his tenth year as head of the boys basketball program and 23rd season as a head varsity coach. After spending 10 years in his home state of Mississippi, Marty has been in Georgia now 13 years. He has posted a 336-346 record as a varsity boys coach. This is Martys third year as Athletic Director of Augusta Christian. He has served as the head middle school football coach and has also coached cross country and track during his tenure at ACS. Marty and his wife, Tara, have been married 23 years and have three children, Mary Linda, Micah, and Kylee. They live in Evans and are active at West Acres Baptist Church.
Assistant Coach John Harris
Coach Harris begins his third year as Assistant Coach of the Varsity Boys Team. John had a stand-out high school football and basketball career at Augusta Christian and Evans High School, graduating from Evans in 2003. Coach Harris was a four-year starter in basketball and continued his career on the collegiate level at Aiken Tech. While in high school, John played AAU for the prestigious Atlanta Celtics as well as the Georgia Stars. He is an active member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church where he sings in the All-Male Choir and is active in the youth ministry. Coach Harris has a daughter, Kaiya, who is eight years old. His favorite Bible verse is Philippians 4:13 which says I can do all thing through Christ who strengthens me.
JV Head Coach Terry Rutherford
Coach Rutherford is beginning his 10th year at ACS and has been a part of the basketball staff for eight years. Terry's high school basketball career includes being a three year starter at Everett High School in Maryville, Tennessee, earning all-state honors and being ranked the number seven high school player in the state of Tennessee his senior year. Coach Rutherford played two years at Walters State Community College, winning a Tennessee state junior college championship while averaging 17 points and 11 rebounds per game. Terry finished his college career at Western Carolina University, being named captain his senior year while averaging 11 points and 7 rebounds per game. In addition to coaching basketball, Coach Rutherford is a Bible teacher at ACS and golf coach. He is happily married to Christine and they have two children and two grandchildren. His favorite scripture verse is Philippians 1:6.
MS A Team Head Coach Patrick Gallemore
Coach Gallemore is from Twiggs County Georgia and while he was in high school he was a multi-sport athlete. Coach Gallemore went to school at Luther Rice University. This is his first year as a science teacher at Augusta Christian and his first year coaching the middle school boys basketball team. He also coached the defensive backs on the varsity football team. Coach Gallemore is married to Tomeka and they have two children, Preston and Nacarya. He enjoys preaching and spending time with his family. He also served seven years in the army reserve.
MS B Team Head Coach Charles Cooper
Coach Cooper graduated from ACS in 1994 and while in school played football, basketball, tennis and ran track. He captured the schools first state championship in 1992 winning the GISA Triple Jump Crown. After a year of running track at Middle Tennessee State, Coach Cooper came back to Augusta to finish his Sociology degree at Augusta State University and completed his Masters Degree in Education from Troy University in 2005. Coach Cooper has worn many hats while at ACS. He has coached on all levels of football and is also the Head Track Coach at ACS. Off the field, Coach Cooper teaches history at ACS. He is married to Jessica and they have a 2 1/2 year old daughter named Kennedy. They live in Grovetown and attend New Hope Worship Center.
